Reviewing Moira MacTaggert's research in to the Legacy Virus the Beast discovers her cure. His joyful yell brings the others in the mansion running. However as he explains the cure to his teammates he realises that the cure will kill the first person it is given to, before instantly curing all the others affected. Although the Beast is confident that with some time he will be able to modify the cure so it is non-lethal, Colossus decides not to wait. With the others blowing off steam in a friendly basketball match, Colossus knocks Cecelia Reyes out with gas then injects himself with the cure. He turns himself to metal, then back to human form releasing the cure but causing a heart failure. Despite Cecelia's best efforts she is unable to save his life and he dies.
