With Cyclops and Wolverine busy in Genosha, Phoenix assembles an emergency team of X-Men. She liberates Johanna Cargill from interrogation at the Pentagon. She then approaches Northstar who is on a book signing tour. She saves young Hector Rendoza from a mob in Boston, then approaches the invulnerable Pauly Provenzano who agrees to help for the chance of seeing Jean in her costume. Returning to the mansion she is met by Sunfire's sister Leyu who has come to help on his behalf. Jean explains to them that Magneto has captured the X-Men's founder Professor Xavier and is reading to declare war. They are joined by the sudden arrival of the battle weary Dazzler.
