Having entered the mind of a captive Shockwave Rider where she learns that the Neo blame them for the destruction of their home. She is attacked in the mental plane by the Rider but defeats him just before the other X-Men, except Cable, join her in the astral plane. In reality, Cable is attacked again by the Shockwave Riders but beats them off as he defends the X-Men's bodies. A new group of Neo appear in the mental landscape and try to take over the X-Men's souls but the X-Men are able to overcome their fears and triumph. Phoenix resucitates their captive and all return to the physical realm. Unable to convincing them that they are not responsible for the Neo's holocaust the X-Men and Shockwave Riders leave as enemies. Later, Gambit explains why he had asked the others to join him in France to mount a rescue mission and the other agree to help.
