Summoned to Venice by Gambit, Phoenix shows Cable a hidden treausre trove she discovered years earlier. They are met by the Beast who also received a message from Gambit. The three are attacked by hovercraft-riding mutants calling themselves Shockwave Riders. Joined by Storm the attackers are defeated, two teleporting away. Finally joined by Gambit, Phoenix interogates their captive who attempts to will himself to death. Phoenix enters his mind to stop him.
