Note: This issue is double-sized and also features an interview with Chris Claremont and character design sketches. The name of Maria Pilar Cortes is presumably based on Salvador Larocca's wife/girlfriend?, the Maria Pilar who appears in the Marvel Offices in Fantastic Four Vol.3 #27.
While relaxing in Spain the X-Men are suddenly attacked by armed assault teams of the Guarda Civil. Rogue's invulnerability saves her from the initial assault and finds herself facing a large number of hostiles. Trying to avoid civilian casualties she heads out to sea where she is struck by missiles and disappears into the ocean. Tessa had also avoided the initial assault and dispatches the teams that come after he effortlessly. Disappearing in to the crowd, Tessa recounts their trip to Spain and the rationale behind it, their quest for Destiny's volumes of prophecy. The captured X-Men are taken to Los Torres De Serranos in Valencia were they are studied by government scientists. The X-Men awaken a day later in a series of tunnels were their powers and skills are tested. They defeat the first group of attackers but are taken by surprise when the floor beneath them collapses.
